Torrington Drive Community Association marks another milestone by keeping children fed and active this summer
From July 26th until August 27th 2021, the ‘Halewood Summer of Fun’ was launched, children and families enjoyed five weeks of learning and leisure enriched activities such as arts and crafts, multi sports, play areas, swimming, board games and more.
Torrington Drive Community Association has shown resilience and strength as a charity, providing food, care and activities for residents throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, and this summer they have helped make a difference for children and families around Halewood.
A total of over 1,000 people attended the four weekly visits to the New Hutte Neighbourhood Centre, Halewood Leisure Park, Frensham park and even an additional trip to Knowsley Safari Park. Whether it was rain or shine, there were smiles all around.
Not only were the team of dedicated TDCA staff and volunteers making sure children were staying busy with activities and visits from Torry the Tiger, they were also serving free nutritional food for the children ensuring they were kept fed and hydrated throughout the summer holidays.
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought challenging times to families, however TDCA have shown a rapid response, standing as a strong pillar of support for Halewood families and residents, previously sending children across the community 337 packed lunches over the course of 15 weeks, substituting what would have been provided within school term times.
Alongside TDCA, immense support has been shown by many partners who have helped make this summer possible. KMBC Early Years Service & Rangers Service, Volair and Barton Day Nurseries, and their funding partners, KMBC, One Knowsley, ASDA and Steve Morgan Foundation have provided their services throughout the pandemic to fund and provide essential materials for the charity.
The Halewood Summer of Fun has been a monumental success, the charity has allowed children to enjoy their summer break whilst giving parents a sense of solidarity. TDCA have once again demonstrated their devotion and motivation to keep the heart of the community beating throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Torry will see you all again soon!
